15 Daily Affirmations to Increase your Positivity

"The world is a cruel place" or so I've been told. Okay, I'll admit that I'm a bit afraid to agree with this but over the last few days it's saddened me to realise that it is and often the outcome of all of the world's problems has an extremely negative effect on us teens. After wakening up this morning to about a 100 notifications from News24 (psh who doesn't have News24?)  telling me about everything that is going wrong in the world right now and after having my own battles to fight over the past month I was actually feeling quite negative.

As a teenager you probably feel down, anxious or negative a lot of a time and although they try to sell us the idea that it's "normal" to feel this way, that's still not an excuse to ignore how you're really feeling. Now, don't get me wrong! I am definitely not telling you to dwell on your problems, quite the opposite actually.
Let me give you an example.

You look at your life and feel as if nothing is going right. It all feels very overwhelming and it's hard to keep up to date with school, love your body in today's societal pressures, maintain your health and you still don't have a significant other. It's a giant mess. I just summed up your feelings right? Now I know I'm right because this is how every teen feels and even if you have one of those 4 problems nailed down you are mostly likely are struggling with the other 3.

My advice to you is this.

Life is HARD but if you can stay positive you can consider yourself a problem solving pro! How to stay positive you ask? Well it's actually all up to you. By using these 15 affirmations below you can convince yourself that everything is going to be okay and create a positive environment for your day ahead! Try choosing one affirmation a day and repeat it whenever you feel a wave of negativity coming on. I promise it works. Always remember positivity is key! ;)

To save these affirmations, click on the one you want to save and hold down until the save option pops up!

Let me know how it goes!

The Ultimate Summer Playlist

After reminiscing about my holiday for 3 weeks and 3 blog posts (Totally Teen Take on the Big AppleThe Ultimate Guide to Cruising The Caribbean with Celebrity Cruises & 35 Photos that will put Puerto Rico on Your Bucket List)  I've decided that I don't need to move on. Instead, I can keep reminding myself about the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches until I get to escape back to The Caribbean. And so, to help myself stay in the topmost Caribbean mood, I have created The Ultimate Summer Playlist.

Whether you're spending the day at the beach, pool or inside because it's actually winter but you're dreaming of summer ;) this playlist is a perfect match to the summer vibe!

Totally Teen Takes on The Big Apple

New York City is one of the most inspiring places in the world. In fact it's so inspiring that I have opted to sit at my dining room table and write all about the Big Apple while the rest of my family snacks on the blue Doritos (Does anyone know their actual name or flavour lol?) and watches Johnny English.

Have you been to New York? If you have, you'll have fallen instantly in love and have decided to move there as soon as you're finished with school. Have you been to New York in winter? If you have, you'll have decided you're never visiting a non-tropical destination for a vacay ever again. Just jokes ;) Even though it was -8 while I was in NYC I still find myself daydreaming about it while my Math teacher drones on about something called "exponents and surds."

I love New York City and I am so excited to finally share all my favourites from the Big Apple with  my Totally Teen Tribe! So cozy up and enjoy this recollection of one of the most fabulous cities in the world...

10 Places You Absolutely Have To Visit in NYC:

There are thousands of weird yet wonderful places to visit in The Big Apple but I have chosen to show you the ten that will inspire you to explore the fabulous city on your own. My biggest recommendation is this... Use The Big Bus Tour! This Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour is the greatest decision we made when touring NYC! Because we only had 2 full days in New York the 2 day ticket was the perfect option for us. The Bus not only has wifi ;) but also live guides and if you're visiting in winter, is a guard against the cold.

Sometimes it was too cold to take my hands out of their gloves for a snap ;) There is no photo taken by me of the 9/11 Memorial out of respect <3

1.  M&M Store

2. Statue of Liberty

3. Ellis Island

4. Madame Tussauds

5. Central Park

6. Times Square

7. Empire State Building

8. Flat Iron Building

Picture by Daniel Burnham - way too cold to snap a pic

9. Brooklyn Bridge

Where to Eat & What to Try: Pro Tips ;)

My fave restaurant in the whole of NYC: Tony Di Napoli ! This family styled restaurant is "doing the things"! Seriously, their food is so good that my mouth is watering right now. If you're ever in NYC head over to Tony's for the meal of your life.

Foodie Tips:

1. Eat a Pretzel in Central Park
2. Bagels & Cream Cheese, the go-to breakfast
3. An original Starbucks coffee with your name spelt wrong and all the toppings ;)
4. Hot Chocolates & Whipped cream (Take it from a hot chocolate expert, NYC has the best!)

And thats it! You're now ready to take on The Big Apple! One more tip, if it's winter when you're jetting off to NYC, make sure you're packing for the coldest trip of your life...
